Things to think about.

Do Big Box Grocers really have to be as big as they are?

Despite the abundance of food resources.  Almost 100 billion pounds of food is wasted in America each year. 700 million hungry human beings in different parts of the world would have gladly accepted this food.

Hunger Facts: Domestic

Hunger persists in the U.S. 35.5 million people including 12.6 million children—live in households that experience hunger or the risk of hunger. This represents more than one in ten households in the United States (10.9 percent).
4.0 percent of U.S. households experience hunger. Some people in these households frequently skip meals or eat too little, sometimes going without food for a whole day. 11.1 million people, including 430 thousand children, live in these homes.
6.9 percent of U.S. households are at risk of hunger. Members of these households have lower quality diets or must resort to seeking emergency food because they cannot always afford the food they need. 24.4 million people, including 12.2 million children, live in these homes.

Research shows that preschool and school-aged children who experience severe hunger have higher levels of chronic illness, anxiety and depression, and behavior problems than children with no hunger.

Food For Thought
The next time you’re at your favorite grocer, ask if you could go out back and check their dumpsters.  Soup kitchens take only a fraction of what they discard to consume safely.  Take a good hard look at what big box stores waste everyday.  We at Health and Harmony Natural Foods buy wisely to retail.  We don’t like waste.  Although inventory is important waste is pitiful.  We desire a profit to allow us to stay in business and supply our family with a comfortable living. Oh yes, It’s so nice to go to the store and  have at your finger tips a cornucopia of food.  Is this the best nutritious food for your family they can consume?  Think about how it was produced and processed.  Chemicals for pest and weed control and Chemical fertilizers to make it grow and look perfect.  If you had to choose, would you drink a clean glass of water or a dirty glass of water? The food your consuming today may look perfect, unfortunately it maybe the furthest it could be from perfect.

Do you ever wonder what you pay for at the superstores?

- Pavement covers acres of tillable  ground for parking that’s salted all winter that will eventually soak in to our
    clean  water  table.
- Warehouse based retail that gobbles energy to heat and cool
-  Environment friendly illusion with cloth bags for sale as an option to promote green land fills

-   Small business casualties due to economics of scale

- As the unemployment rate climbs will these superstores provide us enough jobs to survive?
